Just like fresh-cut flowers, herbs do better when stored upright in water.
Here’s what to do:
-
Trim the Stems:
Cut about an inch off the bottom of your herb stems with kitchen scissors or a sharp knife. -
Add Water:
Fill a glass jar or small container with about 1–2 inches of water. -
Place the Herbs in the Jar:
Just like a bouquet! Make sure the stems are submerged but the leaves stay above water. -
Cover (Optional):
If you're storing herbs like cilantro, parsley, or dill, loosely cover them with a plastic bag. This helps trap a bit of humidity without making them soggy. -
Refrigerate or Leave Out:
Soft herbs like parsley, cilantro, and mint prefer the fridge.
Hardy herbs like rosemary, thyme, or basil can stay at room temperature (but away from direct sunlight). -
Change the Water Every 2–3 Days:
Just like flowers—fresh water keeps everything perky.
